Alliance for Generative Software Engineering

AGenSE, the Alliance for Generative Software Engineering, was established by four Horizon Europe projects to support the trustworthy adoption of generative AI throughout the software development lifecycle. It serves as a shared European platform for research coordination, technical exchange and the development of common approaches to software reliability, security, interoperability, evaluation and human-AI collaboration.

AI4SWEng is a Horizon Europe project running from 2025 to 2028 and involving 15 partners across the European Union, Switzerland, and Turkey. It combines expertise in Model-Driven Software Engineering, trustworthy AI, and Large Language Models to address challenges in sectors such as healthcare, cyber-physical systems, and electric vehicles. The project will deliver an AI-powered software engineering suite supporting the entire software lifecycle, including code generation, debugging, security, energy efficiency, and project management. Through user-centred design and advanced prompt engineering, AI4SWEng aims to improve productivity, reliability, sustainability, and developer well-being while ensuring ethical and regulatory compliance. This paper presents the consortium’s strategic approach to enabling more agile, intelligent, and sustainable software development.

ASTIR investigates the use of Generative AI to support the software engineering of intelligent robotic systems. The rise of intelligent robots, with their ability to learn, adapt, and make independent decisions, highlights the need for improved software engineering tools and methods.
The vision of ASTIR is to address robotics software engineering challenges by developing an AI-augmented engineering workbench for intelligent robotics software, supporting all lifecycle phases from requirements engineering to system maintenance. This workbench, leveraging trustworthy generative AI, aims to integrate with current engineering practices, enhancing collaboration and productivity.
ASTIR will validate the AI-augmented engineering workbench in three use cases targeting diverse robotics markets, namely service robotics, manufacturing robotics, and drones.

MOSAICO provides a holistic framework for the coordinated, supervised collaboration of multi-agent AI communities across the software engineering (SE) lifecycle. By integrating LLM-based agent orchestration, automated quality benchmarking, and trustable governance mechanisms into development environments, MOSAICO mitigates single-agent hallucinations and bias, ensuring reliable, scalable AI assistance for complex SE tasks.

HIVEMIND transforms software engineering with a human-centric, AI-driven approach. By integrating an adaptive multi-agent framework, we enable seamless collaboration between developers and specialised LLM agents, streamlining software specification, code development, and maintenance. Validated across key industrial and societal sectors, HIVEMIND enhances efficiency, security, and adaptability, setting a new standard for responsible software development.
